Baofeng ↔ Retevis Communication Setup

Radio "Ghosting" Detected

Your Baofeng can hear the Retevis because its receive codes are open. However, your Retevis remains silent because it requires a specific sub-audible "handshake" tone (CTCSS/DCS) to open its speaker lock. You must configure the Baofeng to transmit this tone.

Action Steps for the Baofeng

  1. Switch to Frequency Mode (VFO): Your radio is currently locked in CH.-1. Press the VFO/MR button (or turn the radio off, hold MENU, and turn it back on) until the display shows a raw frequency number instead of a channel name. Manually enter your Retevis Channel 1 frequency.
  2. Change to Narrow Bandwidth: Press MENU → scroll to Menu 04 (Bandwidth) → press MENU → change from Wide to Narrow → press MENU to save.
  3. Apply the Transmit Code (The Key Fix): Press MENU → scroll to Menu 13 (T-CTCS) → press MENU → change from OFF to 67.0Hz → press MENU to save.
Note: Standard Retevis radios default to 67.0Hz on Channel 1. If 67.0Hz doesn't unlock the Retevis speaker, turn Menu 13 back to OFF, go to Menu 12 (T-DCS), and set it to D023N.
